What is Athrú?
Athrú is a client-centred occupational therapy practice operating online with clients across Ireland. Athrú was founded in 2024 by Áine Clarke, Amy Tuite and Laura Carroll, three experienced occupational therapists and friends, to support people to achieve their goals.
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational Therapy is a client-centred therapy that focuses on “activities of daily living” or “occupations” - things that we want and need to do every day to lead a life that’s fulfilling to us. You may often hear occupational therapists referred to as “OTs”.
Occupational Therapy can support people from all walks of life to improve their capacity to engage in the things most important to them. The core belief of the profession is that being able to do the meaningful things in life supports our wellbeing and mental health, and that’s what we at Athrú strive for.
-
People come to Occupational Therapy for many reasons. Occupational Therapy can help with managing life responsibilities, bringing balance to your routine and pursuing a life in line with the things that are important to you. If you’re unsure about Occupational Therapy, contact one of us at Athrú.
-
Occupational Therapy is a profession focused on “doing”. The focus is on re-engaging in life roles and passions rather than understanding what has happened to you or why you behave in certain ways. At Athrú we recommend psychotherapy to many of our clients, but we work differently to a counsellor and our work looks a bit different too!
-
Athrú see a wide variety of clients but our focus is on neurodiversity and mental health. We see clients from 12 years, but please read our therapist bios to ensure your therapist meets your needs.
-
You do not need a referral from a healthcare professional to attend Athrú Occupational Therapy, but at times it may be necessary for us to contact your GP or treating team with your permission.
